Harris Rosen’s first encounter with what was to become Shōgun Japanese Steakhouse was with a restaurant specializing in Japanese teppanyaki named Yasaka Gardens.
This restaurant was operated by an elderly couple referred to only as Mama-san and Papa-san. It soon became a favorite place to dine for Mr. Rosen.
When Mama-san and Papa-san needed to find a new place to lease their restaurant, Mr. Rosen offered them space in his newest hotel, the International Inn (now Rosen Inn closest to Universal). Years later, the couple announced their retirement, and Mr. Rosen officially purchased the restaurant in 1988. Soon after, Yasaka Gardens reopened as Shōgun Japanese Steakhouse. Like countless others, Mr. Rosen has celebrated many family occasions at Shōgun, and it remains his favorite restaurant to this day.
Now, Shōgun is celebrating its 35th anniversary this year.
To mark the milestone, Shōgun is offering a $35 three-course meal, a prix fixe menu of Shōgun’s most popular dishes over the years.
The first course offers a sushi starter, including a choice of tuna nigiri and salmon nigiri, shrimp crunch roll, or a lemon drop roll. For the second course, guests can choose between three teppanyaki entrées: Shōgun Special, New York strip steak, or Samurai. Top off the night with a sweet treat for the third course: New York-style cheesecake, chocolate decadence cake, or two scoops of ice cream.
While many things have changed in and around Orlando over the years, the quality of food and high levels of entertainment remain staples at Shōgun.
